Biomed professionals support a vast number of medical devices, responsible for their repair and PM (performance and preventative maintenance). The biomed’s handbook was written by a biomed for biomeds, at a device level. To competently work on each medical device, the biomed should have a good clinical understanding of the medical device, know how the user uses the medical device, have a solid technical understanding of the medical device and know how to generically PM the medical device. This book was written with this as the basis. This book is aimed at students who want knowledge about the biomedical technology support field or existing biomeds who want additional knowledge on equipment, they have not yet supported.

The Author

Walter graduated from Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology program at St. Clair College, Windsor (1984) and then graduated from the Biomedical Electronics Technology program at Fanshare College, London (1986).

He initially worked as a Biomed supporting numerous medical devices including specialized devices such as excimer lasers. He worked in Saudia Arabia as a Biomed (during the Gulf War) and wrote/published the first version of The Biomed’s Handbook (1994).

In 1997 he started working in the medical imaging field as an FSE (Field Support Engineer) supporting MRI, CT and Vascular systems, eventually becoming a national support Vascular specialist. He then started working for the local Windsor hospitals in Diagnostic Imaging supporting numerous systems such as PACS.

While working for the local hospitals in Windsor, he taught Biomedical Equipment Support part-time at St. Clair College and wrote/published Version 2 of The Biomeds Handbook (August 2019).
